When you share your story with me, your information is treated with respect, care and confidentiality. This page explains what is collected, why, and what you can ask for.

About this policy

Thank you for visiting the Recreate Counselling website. This Privacy Policy has been created by Recreate Counselling (ABN 53 727 026 892), referred to here as "Recreate Counselling", "we" or "us", to explain how we gather and use information. We understand how much people value their privacy, and this website has been designed with that in mind.

You agree to this Privacy Policy, in its entirety, when you:

  • access or use this website;
  • book a session, request information or sign up for anything offered on this website; and/or
  • give your express consent to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use or access this website. Please read it before using this website or submitting any personal information.

Recreate Counselling is run by Tanya Ellsworth and is based in Wollongong, NSW, Australia. Sessions are held online, with women across Australia and overseas.

Children's privacy

We take children's privacy very seriously. This website is not intended for anyone under 18 years of age, and Recreate Counselling works with adults only. No one under 18 may provide any information to or on this website. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.

If you are under 18, please do not use this website, make a booking or payment through it, or give us any information about yourself, including your name, address, phone number or email address.

If we learn that we have collected personal information from someone under 18 without verified parental consent, we will delete it. If you believe we might hold information from or about someone under 18, please contact us at tanya@recreatemylife.com.

We handle all personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

Information we collect

Personal information

You may give us personal information for a number of reasons, such as when you book a session, ask about our services, or sign up to receive emails from us. To support you well, we usually collect:

  • your name, email address, phone number and booking details;
  • payment information; and
  • any forms, emails or messages you send us.

Mostly, we collect this directly from you, when you email, book online or join a session. Sometimes it comes from a person who referred you, if that is relevant. Some of this information is held in the third-party systems we use to take bookings, payments and emails, rather than on our own servers.

We will only use your personal information to:

  • book and run your sessions, and deliver the services you have asked for;
  • keep accurate records, as the law requires;
  • check that the terms and conditions are being followed;
  • improve how this website and our services work; and
  • contact you, when needed, about your sessions or your use of this website.

We do not sell your data. We will never share your personal information with third parties unless you have given us permission, or one of the situations described under "Confidentiality and its limits" applies.

If you give us your email address on this website, you agree to receive emails from us. You can stop them at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email. We only send emails to people who have asked us to contact them, and we do not send unsolicited commercial email.

If you give us your phone number, you agree that we may contact you about the sessions or services you have asked about. We comply with Australian anti-spam and do-not-call laws, including the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) and the Do Not Call Register Act 2006 (Cth).

Advertising

If we advertise on Facebook or Google, we may use the email address you have given us to show our advertising to people who have chosen to hear from us (known as custom audience targeting).

To stop seeing a particular ad from us on Facebook:

  • go to the ad you want to turn off;
  • click the menu in the top corner of the ad; and
  • click "Hide ad".

To change the ads you see on Facebook from all advertisers, log in to your Facebook account, open your settings, go to the ad preferences section, and choose the options that limit what Facebook shows advertisers.

To stop seeing a particular ad from us on Google:

  • go to the ad you want to turn off;
  • click the x in the corner of the ad; and
  • click "Stop seeing this ad".

Other advertising platforms have similar ways to turn off an ad.

Counselling sessions and your records

When you work with me, you may share information that is personal and sensitive. With your consent, this can include relevant health details or details of your history. It is collected only so that I can support you well.

Session records are kept securely, for as long as the law requires. For adults, that is seven years. Recreate Counselling works with adult women only.

Confidentiality and its limits

What you share in sessions is confidential. I do not share your personal information unless:

  • there is a serious risk of harm to you or to others; or
  • a legal obligation requires it, such as a court order.

In these circumstances, I will attempt to discuss this with you privately first.

Cookies and analytics

We may also collect information that does not identify you personally, to understand how this website is used and to improve it.

For this, we may use cookies, session logs, pixel tags and analytics tools such as Google Analytics. Cookies are small text files your web browser stores to remember your preferences. If we advertise, third-party advertising networks may also use cookies to show our ads to you on other websites you visit. You can learn more about opting out of third-party cookies on the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page.

You can set most web browsers to refuse cookies. If you do, some parts of this website or the services that run on it may not work fully.

Emails we send may use pixel tags to measure details such as how many emails are opened, the type of device used, and the general location (city, state and country) linked to the IP address.

Other parties, such as advertising and analytics companies, may also collect information about your online activity across websites over time.

Because there is not yet a common understanding of how to read browser "Do Not Track" signals, we do not currently respond to them.

IP addresses

We may use your IP address to help prevent fraud, to diagnose problems with the website, and to understand broad information about who visits.

Third parties

We do not control, and are not responsible for, the actions of any third parties we link to or recommend from this website, the content they provide, or their privacy practices. We only recommend services we think well of. You are welcome to tell us about your experience with any third party we work with.

How we keep your information safe

Your information is stored securely, and access to it is strictly limited to those who are authorised. It is not available to the public. We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from loss, misuse, unauthorised access and alteration, including:

  • secure digital storage;
  • encryption for sensitive information; and
  • authorised access only.

We take every reasonable precaution to protect your data, but no transmission of information over the internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Please take care to protect your own personal information while online.

Updating, removing or exporting your information

You can see, correct, or ask us to delete your information. You can also withdraw your consent to emails or data tracking at any time, and ask questions about how your data is used.

To change your email preferences, click the "Unsubscribe" or "Manage preferences" link at the bottom of any email you receive from us.

To ask that we delete your personal data, email tanya@recreatemylife.com with the subject line "Forget Me" and say in the email that you are asking to have your personal data deleted.

To ask for a copy of your data, for example to take it to another provider, email tanya@recreatemylife.com with the subject line "Export My Data" and say in the email that you are asking for your data to be exported. We provide it in a standard format.

To protect your privacy, please send these requests from the email address we have on file for you. Otherwise we cannot act on them.

Please be aware that:

  • we must keep any records the law requires us to keep, including session records, even if you ask us to delete them;
  • some data may be anonymised rather than deleted, so it can no longer be connected to you; and
  • once we delete your data, we cannot restore it.

We aim to reply to all requests within 30 days. You may also have other rights under applicable federal or state laws.

Withdrawing consent

To stop receiving emails or other communications from us, please unsubscribe using the link in any email you receive, or email us. To unsubscribe from a third-party service, please contact that third party directly.

If you withdraw your consent completely, we may not be able to continue working with you.

Your rights under Australian privacy law

The Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles give you rights in relation to the personal information we hold about you. These include the right to ask for access to your personal information, and to ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete.

To use these rights, or to make a privacy complaint, please email tanya@recreatemylife.com. If you are not satisfied with how we handle your request or complaint, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au.

A note for EU residents: your rights under the GDPR

If the General Data Protection Regulation applies to you because you are in the European Union, you have rights in relation to your personal data:

  • The right to be informed. We must tell you how we use your personal data.
  • The right of access. You can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • The right to rectification. You can ask us to correct personal data that is incomplete or inaccurate.
  • The right to erasure. Also known as the right to be forgotten. In certain circumstances you can ask us to delete your personal data, unless there is an overriding legal reason to keep it.
  • The right to restrict processing. In certain circumstances you can ask us to pause processing your personal data.
  • The right to data portability. You can ask for a copy of your personal data in a common format.
  • The right to object. You can object to us processing your personal data, for example for direct marketing.
  • Rights about automated decision making and profiling. You can ask us to be transparent about any profiling or automated decision making.

These rights are subject to certain rules about when you can use them. We honour them wherever possible. To use any of them, please email tanya@recreatemylife.com.

Severability

If any part of this Privacy Policy is found to be invalid or unenforceable, that part will be read in a way that is consistent with the law and as close as possible to its original intention, and the rest of this policy will stay in full force and effect.
